New Ups and Downs!

March 3, 2010

My new agility equipment arrived last week, as I finally got around to ordering a teeter base. I still have to acquire a board from Home Depot to finish setting it up and since that requires 1) a trip to a store I don’t normally go to and 2) two colors of paint to decorate the board plus sand for traction, who knows when that’ll actually get done. But, I am really excited about seeing how the houndies do with a new and different agility challenge. Some of you may remember the “mini-teeter” the puppies loved to play on…especially little Dash who has already mastered single and triple  jumps, the tire jump, tunnels and the closed chute (her favorite, actually).

Expanding our agility collection is a great way to challenge me as an owner (I have to think about how to teach the obstacle to each dog) and they’re an interesting challenge for the dog (who has to figure out how to physically master the obstacle and learn to pay attention to me). I’ve never really enjoyed teaching or practicing a lot of traditional obedience type skills, but the agility does require me to teach them a few very basic things, which I can live with because it helps us do the much more fun and active agility obstacles.

Echo: You want me to do what???

I’ve been bugging Ken to bring the video camera down to the kennel one day so I can show off some of the dogs, but it always seems to be something we have more time for tomorrow! LOL I’ll be sure to post them here, though, when we do eventually get something recorded…
