{"id":455,"date":"2016-09-20T00:25:05","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T00:25:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldofgrey.com\/?p=455"},"modified":"2016-09-08T00:55:40","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T00:55:40","slug":"texas-chocolate-sheet-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/worldofgrey.com\/?p=455","title":{"rendered":"Texas Chocolate Sheet Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t usually like chocolate cake, but this is chocolate cake with a\u00a0twist&#8230;a delicious twist.<\/p>\n<p>Cake:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>2 cups sugar<\/li>\n<li>1 1\/2 tsp baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1 cup water<\/li>\n<li>1 cup unsalted butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 Dutch cocoa<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup buttermilk<\/li>\n<li>2 eggs, slightly beaten<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 tsp ground cinnamon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What to do:<\/p>\n<p>Heat oven to 375. Grease &amp; flour 13x9x2 cake pan<\/p>\n<p>In a medium sized bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.<\/p>\n<p>In large saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, water and cocoa &#8211; stirring constantly until well blended and remove from heat. To chocolate mixture, add the flour mixture, eggs, buttermilk &amp; vanilla and beat at medium speed with a\u00a0 hand mixer until smooth (about 2 minutes)<\/p>\n<p>Pour batter into cake pan and bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes (yes, preheat to 375 and then turn it down to 350 when you put the cake in).<\/p>\n<p>When the cake comes out, I use a flat spatula to *gently* push the puffed up part of the cake down so it&#8217;s relatively flat. Allow the cake to cool COMPLETELY before you pour the frosting on top.<\/p>\n<p>Frosting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 1\/2 cups powdered sugar (16 oz box)<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup unsalted butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 TBSP cocoa<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 tsp salt<\/li>\n<li>1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>6 TBSP half and half (or cream)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup finely chopped pecans (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In a large saucepan, melt butter, milk &amp; cocoa. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar &amp; vanilla.
